FAQs

If I cancel, will I have to pay?

Not if you’ve given me 24 hours notice with a message to my cell phone. You should really only cancel because of illness – not because you have extra homework for example.  Get used to organizing your work around the lesson.

Do you work at weekends?

Yes!  But of course, my availability will depend on what students I have at the moment.

Can two students share a lesson?

No.  I’ve tried this several times over the years and it’s always been a mistake.  You immediately lose the advantage of one-to-one tuition; each student works at a different pace and has different problems.

How long before I see an improvement?

In Physics and Chemistry which are more information based you should see an improvement within a few weeks.  With Maths it can take longer because the problem often lies with earlier work which has to be refreshed.  Also, small mistakes can lose you lots of marks in tests.Usually students begin to understand more and then they realise that they have to practice lots of Qs before they see an improvement in their test scores.  Three to four months should be enough to see a great improvement.

Will the lessons support my homework?

For Physics, Chemistry and Statistics, yes.  In the case of Mathematics, it may be that some of the lesson has to be spent improving your basic Maths skills – but if you’re having trouble with some homework then of course I’ll help.  Ideally, you will already have made some attempt at the questions!

My School is making me choose one of Physics and Chemistry – which one should I take?

Usually this problem occurs because of timetable clashes for students who aren’t aiming to major in a Science subject. Here are some guidelines:

  1.  If you want to study Medicine then Chemistry is the most important.

  2.  Physics should only be taken by students wanting to continue in Maths or Science…however…

  3. The Chemistry AP, IB and A-Level exams seem to be the hardest in which to get a high grade.  There is a lot of material to learn and there seems to be many questions on the periphery of the syllabuses.  You may find the Physics exams easier!
